Keeping the minimalistic approach of his previous albums, but embarking on a long journey through the dark underbelly of the American dream, Conner created his own brand of dark Americana. Xasthur were originally conceived by Scott Conner in California, USA in the year 1995. The project started out in the vein of bleak black metal in the tradition of the Nordic second wave. The year 2018 saw Xasthur reaping the rewards of frenzied creativity with two albums hitting the street: first "A Misleading Reality" and then "Other Worlds of the Mind". At the time, both albums were originally released under the name NOCTURNAL POISONING, but were later added to the canon of the prime band and redesignated accordingly by the artist. Although the expression had shifted from black metal to a more acid folk-like approach, the spiritual core of the music remained the same. Xasthur meticulously chronicled the experiences of many Americans and folk around the globe that failed to meet the relentlessly rising cost of merely existing. All the elements that made the band unique are still there on "A Misleading Reality": the ominous and deranged, the melancholic brooding and the dreamlike, the sinister and the pain. It's high time to lift this overlooked musical treasure from the gutter again and it will be released on vinyl for the first time. Xasthur were conceived by vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Scott Conner in California, USA in the year 1995. The project started out in the vein of bleak black metal in the tradition of the Nordic second wave. Over the course of nine albums and a host of split-singles, EPs, and occasional demos, Xasthur's individual, particularly depressive style became highly regarded within the extreme genre. Xasthur's 2009 full-length "All Reflections Drained" is still firmly based on a black metal foundation of the band's earlier works although this phase came to a preliminary close only a year later. At the time, this album was originally released under the name NOCTURNAL POISONING, but it was later added by the artist to the canon of his prime band and redesignated accordingly. The (according to the new count) seventh Xasthur full-length can be heard as the soundtrack to a bleak fairytale of broken hearts and sinister horrors. This symphony of abomination and misery emphasises the cinematic aspects of black metal where dark emotions turn into images of the mind. The characteristic lo-fi fog of Xasthur's sound is deliberately designed and backed by years of experience. "All Reflections Drained" will be released on vinyl for the first time. Xasthur were originally conceived by vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Scott Conner in California, USA in the year 1995. The project started out in the vein of bleak black metal in the tradition of the Nordic second wave. Over the course of nine albums and a host of split-singles, EPs, and occasional demos, Xasthur's individual, particularly depressive style became highly regarded within the extreme genre. In 2010, Scott announced the end of Xasthur and returned with an acoustic dark folk project under the banner of NOCTURNAL POISONING. In 2015, the American artist returned to the name Xasthur, but insisted that his black metal days were over. Xasthur founder Scott Conner sure ain't one of them. The always open wound of his life suppurates in a constant flow of sonic blood into and out of his latest album "Disharmonic Variations". The thirteen bitter, painful, dirt-stained, and sometimes even hopeful tracks sure ain't pretty "Goldberg Variations" either. Rather the title "Disharmonic Variations" serves as both the program and the message. Music is not just what Scott does. He does not lead a picture book life. There is only music. Scott does not write and record just 8 songs a year. He makes music 24/7 on his own time and in his own way. Scott does it analogue, in the hard old-fashioned way, with his gear and instruments piled up in the room where he stays at the time. In this musical flow of consciousness, this diary of an artist, all considerations of style are a luxury that Scott does not have. His current form of expression on "Disharmonic Variations" tends towards the acidic taste of American dark folk with one detour into ambient sound. There is no guarantee for the direction that Xasthur will take next. Whatever happens depends on what Scott feels. Xasthur were originally conceived by vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Scott Conner in the year 1995. Although started in the sunny state of California, USA, the project started out in the vein of bleak black metal of the Nordic second wave. In 2010, Scott announced the end of Xasthur and returned with an acoustic dark folk project under the banner of NOCTURNAL POISONING. In 2015, the American artist circled back to the name Xasthur, but insisted that his black metal days were over. On the previous release "Inevitably Dark" (2023), Xasthur have partly lifted the self-imposed ban on black metal, simply because Conner felt like it and therefore did it. With "Disharmonic Variations", Xasthur deliver their next 'take it or leave it' recording. To Scott Conner it does not matter what other people think about his music. Exclusive recordings.. There is hardly a more fitting title for the new Xasthur compositions than "Inevitably Dark". Darkness is the element that holds all the tracks together despite the fact that they are expressed in a multitude of genres, which even includes black metal. This time. Be warned: this album is neither meant as a return to black metal of mastermind Scott Conner, even though he does this time, nor a guarantee that it will happen again next time - although, he might. Conner has used black metal, dark ambient, acid folk, doomgrass, and other genres to express what he has seen and felt, as well as a way to find his own sound or style at a point in time - for example when he was without a steady home and often living in hotels or cars. His insights into the underbelly of the American dream are reflected in the lyrics of "Inevitably Dark", which are there even though there is no singing on the album. Conner recorded all the tracks of "Inevitably Dark" live and by himself, which might make it sound coarse to modern ears, but it is just the grit and stain of unfiltered reality. Xasthur were originally conceived by vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Scott Conner in California, USA in the year 1995. Curse him, praise him - he still only does what he wills and that remains his true artistic achievement.

Tracks:
1.1 Beginning of a New End
1.2 Mirrors Made of Misery
1.3 Haunted By the Living
1.4 Selling Yourself to Die
1.5 Who Will Smash the Mirror of Lies
1.6 Psychedelic Darkness in Reality
1.7 Messenger of Your Reflection
1.8 Your Existence Is Not Enough
1.9 Other Blind Believers
1.10 As You Point Into Guilty Mirrors
1.11 Fairytale Ideologies
1.12 Sheep in Wolves Clothing
1.13 Counterfeit Pennies
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1033/0151/3561/files/4338091-3178446_d178e85a-cd69-492d-ac1d-fc3dd4ccf3e9.jpg?v=1788059402
xasthur-to-violate-the-oblivious-1
Xasthur: To Violate the Oblivious - COMPACT DISCS
Title: To Violate the Oblivious
Artist: Xasthur
Label: Moribund Records
Product Type: COMPACT DISCS
UPC: 768586006020
Genre: Heavy Metal, Heavy Metal
Release Date: 2021-05-14
Number of Discs: 1
Additional Details: Explicit Lyrics, BONUS TRACK

The colossal fourth album from the US DSBM god available again! With the first couple of rehearsals from '97 lost or stolen, there were a few between '97 and '99 that were saved and compiled. By 2013, Scott created a CDR containing those rehearsal tracks - reported as 200 copies having been created, however less than 100 were ever made available. With Scott on guitar and/ or drums, and aided by nameless musicians directed by Scott, the rehearsals were recorded on a cassette walkman at his home. The outcome of these recordings are very raw, dirty, lo-fi, live demo tracks, mostly instrumentals, with tracks 5 and 6 featuring vocals [by an anonymous helper]. With "Inevitably Dark", Xasthur have partly lifted the self-imposed ban on black metal, simply because Conner felt like it and therefore did it. All potential band members were soon dismissed. Today, Scott and Prophecy Productions unleash this excavated artifact.
