When they burst out of the New York underground/CBGB's movement, the Heads stood apart from the pack because not only were they unlike anything that gone before, they were even anomalous to their contemporaries. A million miles from the detached irony of Blondie or the willful primitivism of the Ramones, the Talking Heads virtually invented geek-rock, setting the stage for everyone from the Violent Femmes to They Might Be Giants. Lyrically, David Byrne came off as the guy who thought too much about everything. Fortunately, he also happened to be a unique visionary, whose quirky, hyper-cerebral modernism echoed the work of poet John Ashbery and "serious" composer Robert Ashley. All this high-mindedness doesn't detract from the infectious rock & roll appeal of the tunes on the band's debut album, though. Their twitchy, preppies-on-amphetamines rhythms and semi-neurotic gestalt fueled tunes like twisted anthem "Psycho Killer" and the jubilant "Pulled Up. " Byrne's high, yelping tenor was the perfect complement to the band's tightly-wound but kinetic rhythms, and 77 is an auspicious debut.

Tracks:
1.1 Uh-Oh, Love Comes to Town
1.2 New Feeling
1.3 Tentative Decisions
1.4 Happy Day
1.5 Who Is It?
1.6 No Compassion
1.7 The Book I Read
1.8 Don't Worry About the Government
1.9 First Week/Last Week... In spring semester 1974, the band gathered in Frantz's Benefit Street apartment to record a demo tape. The cassette featured tracks soon to be classics in The Talking Heads discography: "Warning Sign" and "Psycho Killer." This 3CD collection includes this newly discovered material alongside additional demo and live tracks recorded by the original trio lineup of the band (Bassist Tina Weymouth alongside Frantz and Byrne) in 1975 and 1976 alongside the first official release of the band's demo session for CBS/Columbia Records in 1975 as well as rare live recordings of the original trio lineup in 1976 and 1977.

Tracks:
1.1 Psycho Killer (September 1975 Demo)
1.2 Tentative Decisions (September 1975 Demo)
1.3 No Compassion (September 1975 Demo)
1.4 Warning Sign (September 1975 Demo)
1.5 I'm Not in Love (1976 Demo)
1.6 Thank You for Sending Me An Angel (1976 Demo)
1.7 The Book I Read (1976 Demo)
1.8 I Wish You Wouldn't Say That (1976 Demo)
1.9 Love Goes to a Building on Fire (1976 Demo)
1.10 Happy Day (1976 Demo)
1.11 Artists Only (Live at the Lower Manhattan Ocean Club, New York, NY, 8/17/76)
1.12 Psycho Killer
1.13 Warning Sign
2.1 Psycho Killer (Cbs/Columbia Demo)
2.2 Sugar on My Tongue (Cbs/Columbia Demo)
2.3 Thank You for Sending Me An Angel (Cbs/Columbia Demo)
2.4 I Want to Live (Cbs/Columbia Demo)
2.5 I Wish You Wouldn't Say That (Cbs/Columbia Demo)
2.6 The Girls Want to Be with the Girls (Cbs/Columbia Demo)
2.7 Who Is It?
