There is funk, and there is Funk. This here is of course the latter. Struttin' is the third studio album by the funk group The Meters, originally released in 1970. The first single was the song 'Chicken Strut'. It reached #11 on the U.S. R&B Singles chart. It may not appear to be drastically different than it's predecessors, at least not on the surface. After all, the title of the lead single 'Chicken Strut' intentionally recalls their previous biggest 'Cissy Strut' and it has the same basic Meters groove. And if the essential sound remains unchanged, that is because that organic, earthy funk is The Meters' signature. Other groups have tried to replicate it, but nobody ever played it better. It was on this album The Meters introduced vocals to their style as well, with Art Neville's leads on covers of Ty Hunter's soulful uptown shuffle 'Darling, Darling, Darling' Jimmy Webb's groovy ballad 'Wichita Lineman' and Lee Dorsey's 'Ride Your Pony' (the Meters provided support on the original recording).

Tracks:
1.1 Chicken Strut
1.2 Liver Splash
1.3 Wichita Lineman
1.4 Joog
1.5 Go for Yourself
1.6 Same Old Thing
1.7 Handclapping Song
1.8 Darling Darling Darling
1.9 Tippi-Toes
1.10 Britches
1.11 Hey! Widely regarded as one of their finest works, it played a crucial role in the evolution of funk music, cementing The Meters' reputation as one of the most influential instrumental funk bands of the late '60s and early '70s. On "Struttin," The Meters showcase their tight, groove-oriented sound, blending elements of New Orleans R&B with deep funk rhythms. Their ability to craft infectious, minimalist grooves was ahead of it's time, making the album a foundational influence on the emerging funk scene. Known for it's syncopated rhythms, tight basslines, and horn-driven arrangements, "Struttin" captures The Meters' instrumental mastery. The band's signature 'pocket' funk - emphasizing rhythm and feel over melody - shines throughout, marking a high point in their early catalog.

Tracks:
1.1 Chicken Strut
1.2 Liver Splash
1.3 Wichita Lineman
1.4 Joog
1.5 Go for Yourself
1.6 Same Old Thing
1.7 Hand Clapping Song
1.8 Darling Darling Darling
1.9 Tippi-Toes
1.10 Britches
1.11 Hey! Among the most sampled groups of the '60s and '70s by a slew of top rap and hip-hop artists of the '90s and beyond, the legendary New Orleans band and Grammy Lifetime Achievement awardees The Meters created an instantly recognizable sound through almost a decade of recording, initially for the Josie label and then for Reprise and Warner Brothers. Group members guitarist Leo Nocentelli, bassist George Porter Jr., drummer Joseph 'Zigaboo' Modeliste and keyboardist/singer Art Neville formed the core of the band, later augmented by Art's younger brother, percussionist/singer Cyril who joined The Meters in 1975. This wonderful 116-track, 6-CD SoulMusic Records' box set showcases The Meters' entire recorded output for Josie Records (1968-1971), Reprise and Warner Brothers (1972-77). In addition to their eight full albums, this luxurious package (with a 40-page booklet) includes non-album singles, bonus material, single edits and a rare 1977 disco mix of 'Disco Is The Thing Today', available for the first time on CD.

Tracks:
1.1 Sophisticated Cissy
1.2 Sehorns Farm
1.3 Cissy Strut
1.4 Here Comes the Meter Man
1.5 Cardova
1.6 Live Wire
1.7 Art
1.8 6V6 la
1.9 Stormy
1.10 Sing a Simple Song
1.11 Ease Back
1.12 Ann
1.13 The Look of Love
1.14 Soul Machine
1.15 Dry Spell
1.16 Little Old Money Maker
1.17 Look-Ka Py Py
1.18 Rigor Mortis
1.19 Pungee
1.20 Thinking
1.21 This Is My Last Affair
1.22 Funky Miracle
1.23 Yeah, You're Right
1.24 Oh, Calcutta!
1.25 The Mob
1.26 9 'Til 5
2.1 Chicken Strut
2.2 Hey! The Meters defined New Orleans funk, not only on their own recordings, but also as the backing band for numerous artists, including many produced by Allen Toussaint. Where the funk of Sly Stone and James Brown was wild, careening, and determinedly urban, The Meters were down-home and earthy. Nearly all of their own recordings were instrumentals, putting the emphasis on the organic and complex rhythms. The syncopated, layered percussion intertwined with the gritty grooves of the guitar and organ, creating a distinctive sound that earned a small, devoted cult during the '70s, including musicians like Paul McCartney and Robert Palmer, both of whom used the group as a backing band for recording. Despite their reputation as an extraordinary live band, The Meters never broke into the mainstream, but their sound provided the basis for much of the funk and hip-hop of the '80s and '90s.

Tracks:
1.1 Just Kissed My Baby (VMP 2021 Remaster)
1.2 Cissy Strut (2015 Remaster)
1.3 Find Yourself
1.4 Fire on the Bayou (VMP 2021 Remaster)
1.5 Funkify Your Life (1995 Remaster)
1.6 People Say (VMP 2021 Remaster)
1.7 Tippi-Toes
1.8 Cardova
1.9 Look-Ka Py Py (2015 Remaster)
1.10 Hey Pocky A-Way (VMP 2021 Remaster)
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1033/0151/3561/files/4330571-3146460_b6192ad2-a685-44dc-914c-e18135bc2365.jpg?v=1788060161
the-meters-live-at-the-great-american-music-hall-compact-discs
The Meters: Live at the Great American Music Hall - COMPACT DISCS
Title: Live at the Great American Music Hall
Artist: The Meters
Label: Sing
Product Type: COMPACT DISCS
UPC: 780627371126
Genre: Soul/R & B
Release Date: 2025-10-17
Number of Discs: 1

Widely hailed as the founding fathers of funk, The Meters laid down the blueprint for groove-heavy music that still echoes through hip-hop, rock, and soul today. With razor-sharp rhythm, swampy New Orleans flavor, and a sound tighter than a snare drum, they turned instrumental jams into seismic statements. Whether backing legends like Dr. John or spinning out classics like "Cissy Strut," The Meters didn't just play funk - they defined it. One of New Orleans greatest bands was The Meters, which put the Big Easy on the map as a funk and R&B capital in the 1960s and '70s. The group began as an instrumental quartet, cutting eight studio albums between 1969 and 1977. Although they were never officially captured live on record during that time, in 1981 after the group had split, an obscure label called REG Associates released an LP called At Rozy's which presented a performance supposedly taped at a New Orleans nightclub in December 1976. Recent research, however, reveals that the concert was recorded the previous year at a different venue: San Francisco's prestigious The Great American Music Hall. Newly remastered from the original ¼"master tapes, the performance-including material not heard before-is now presented in full for the first time. It captures The Meters in their prime, giving the listener a front-row seat to witness up close one of the most dynamic funk and soul bands ever.Press "play" and prepare, as Art Neville states mid-way through the gig, to be Meterized!

Tracks:
1.1 A Minor (Middle of the Road)
1.2 Mardi Gras Mambo
1.3 Chicken Strut
1.4 Wildflower
1.5 Down By the River
1.6 People Say
1.7 Just Kissed My Baby
1.8 Jock-A-Mo/Brother John
1.9 Hey Pocky A-Way
Title: Original Album Series
Artist: The Meters
Label: Warner
Product Type: COMPACT DISCS
UPC: 081227961565
Genre: Soul/R & B
Release Date: 2014-01-21
Number of Discs: 1
Additional Details: GERMANY - IMPORT

2014 five CD box set containing a quintet of releases from the influential New Orleans-based outfit. Hailing from the soggy streets of New Orleans, The Meters helped invent the 'second line groove' and shaped the sound of funk like no one else-except maybe James Brown. "Cabbage Alley" blends raw New Orleans rhythms with psychedelic soul, Caribbean flair, and bluesy, chicken-scratch guitars. Art Neville's unmistakable keys, hypnotic drum breaks, deep basslines, and Southern singalong choruses showcase a band functioning as one unified rhythm section. This bold, fearless evolution in their sound proves once again why The Meters are among the finest, rawest funk groups around. The Meters is the debut studio album by the band of the same name. It is an essential album in the funk scene and one that contains a lot of energy and soul. Organist Art Neville led the quartet which consisted of guitarist Leo Nocentelli, the rhythm section of bassist George Porter and drummer Joseph 'Zigaboo' Modeliste. New Orleans funk in their beauty of simplicity, it's what makes this album so remarkable. Each and every song is brimming with hooks, melody and variety. Deep grooves on the single hit 'Cissy Strut' and guitar riffs echoing throughout 'Ease Back'. The Meters are considered the true originators of funk along with artists like James Brown. Originally released in 1975, the album was released the same year that The Rolling Stones had invited The Meters to open for them on their Tour of the Americas. With the album's hit eponymous track along with other classics like "Mardi Gras Mambo" and "They All Ask'd for You," Fire on the Bayou is a fantastic blend of the blues, dance and funk grooves that continues to define the New Orleans music scene and is one of the many examples of why The Meters are considered New Orleans royalty. To celebrate Black Music Month and honor the album's 50th anniversary, this album has been cut from the original tapes by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering and is pressed locally on 180 gram premium-quality vinyl at Fidelity Record Pressing's brand new plant in Oxnard, California as part of the new Rhino Reserve line.

Tracks:
1.1 Out in the Country
1.2 Fire on the Bayou
1.3 Love Slip Upon Ya
1.4 Talkin' 'Bout New Orleans
1.5 They All Ask'd for You
2.1 Can You Do Without?
2.2 Liar
2.3 You're a Friend of Mine
2.4 Middle of the Road
2.5 Running Fast
2.6 Mardi Gras Mambo
Title: Rejuvenation
Artist: The Meters
Label: Music on Vinyl
Product Type: VINYL LP
UPC: 8718469533497
Genre: Soul/R & B
Release Date: 2013-12-17
Number of Discs: 1
Additional Details: 180 GRAM VINYL, BONUS TRACKS

180-gram vinyl includes two bonus tracks "People Say" and "Hey Pocky A-Way".
