Instead of looking at something fantastical or progressive, the group went back to the tale of John 'Babbacombe' Lee, the man they couldn't hang: The gallows failed three times after he was convicted of the murder of Emma Keyse in Torquay in 1885. Dave Swarbrick found details of the trial in a junk shop, and the band worked up the story into an album. Released at the end of 1971 with ephemera from the day telling the story, 'Babbacombe' Lee had episodes listed rather than tracks. It contained the most original material of a Fairport album to date, and was seen as taking folk-rock a huge step forward. Within weeks of the album's release both Dave Mattacks and Simon Nicol left the group, leaving Swarbrick and bassist Dave Pegg to lead Fairport on through their next chapter. Today, 'Babbacombe' Lee is one of the group's most enduring albums.

Tracks:
1.1 The Verdict
1.2 Little Did I Think
1.3 I Was Sixteen (Part 1)
1.4 John My Son
1.5 I Was Sixteen (Part 2)
1.6 St Ninian's Isle
1.7 Trumpet Hornpipe
1.8 Sailors Alphabet
1.9 John Lee
1.10 Newspaper Reading
1.11 Breakfast In Mayfair
1.12 Trial Song
1.13 Cell Song
1.14 The Time Is Near
1.15 Dream Song
1.16 Wake Up John (Hanging Song)
Title: Angel Delight - 180gm Vinyl
Artist: Fairport Convention
Label: Proper Records Uk
Product Type: VINYL LP
UPC: 805520241021
Genre: Folk
Release Date: 2024-11-22
Number of Discs: 1
Additional Details: UNITED KINGDOM - IMPORT, 180 GRAM VINYL

This re-issue faithfully replicates the original 1971 Island Records UK release in gatefold sleeve and is pressed onto high quality 180gm vinyl. Released in June 1971, Angel Delight was the first of two albums of Fairport Convention as a four-piece, after the departure of founder member Richard Thompson that January. The band were living in a converted pub, The Angel, in Hertfordshire where they worked up the material for the album, another blend of the traditional and the original. The title track a pun on the time they were having at the pub, and a nod to the popular British dessert of the same name was a jolly catalogue of their life at the moment, referring to producer John Wood as 'John The Wood' and drummer Dave Mattacks as 'Dave The Drum.' It also mentions the day a lorry crashed into the pub, which, had Dave Swarbrick been in his room at the time could well have killed him. The album Fairport's only Top 10 album in the UK chart is also known for it's traditional medley of jigs and reels, The Cuckoo's Nest, the beautiful ballad Wizard Of The Worldly Game and the group's version of the salty English song The Bonny Black Hare.

Tracks:

Fairport Convention: It All Came Round Again: Onstage & On Air 1982-1990 - 11CD+DVD Boxset - COMPACT DISCS
Title: It All Came Round Again: Onstage & On Air 1982-1990 - 11CD+DVD Boxset
Artist: Fairport Convention
Label: Madfish Records Imp
Product Type: COMPACT DISCS
UPC: 636551828758
Genre: Folk
Release Date: 2024-07-26
Number of Discs: 12
Additional Details: UNITED KINGDOM - IMPORT, BOXED SET, WITH DVD, NTSC REGION 0

Limited Edition 11 CD + DVD set. After their 1969 album Liege and Leif paved the way, Fairport Convention pushed further into traditional music, led by charismatic and renown fiddle-player Dave Swarbrick, who had joined the group in 1969 after making his name with Martin Carthy earlier in the decade. Vocalist Sandy Denny and bassist Ashley Hutchings left after Liege and Leif, and for the first time since the group's inception in 1967, there would be no female voice on a Fairport album. Guitarists Richard Thompson and Simon Nicol took vocal leads with Swarbrick and, with new bassist Dave Pegg joining drummer Dave Mattacks, the group made Full House, released in July 1970. Picking up where it's predecessor left off, and again recorded with Joe Boyd at London's Sound Techniques, the album continued the standards set by their previous four albums. Four of the seven songs on Full House were adapted from traditional folk melodies, such as Dirty Linen and Sir Patrick Spens, while of the originals, Thompson and Swarbrick's nine-minute opus Sloth gave the group one of their all-time anthems. The sleeve sent up their new role as ambassadors of the rustic by inventing a string of traditional British games that didn't really exist.

Tracks:
1.1 Walk Awhile
1.2 Dirty Linen
1.3 Sloth
1.4 Sir Patrick Spens
1.5 Flatback Caper
1.6 Doctor Of Physick
1.7 Flowers Of The Forest
Title: Glady's Leap
Artist: Fairport Convention
Label: Talking Elephant
Product Type: COMPACT DISCS
UPC: 5028479051120
Genre: Folk
Release Date: 2025-08-15
Number of Discs: 1
Additional Details: UNITED KINGDOM - IMPORT

Tracks:
1.1 How Many Times
1.2 Bird from the Mountain
1.3 Honour and Praise
1.4 The Hiring Fair
1.5 Instrumental Medley '85
1.6 My Feet Are Set for Dancing
1.7 Wat Tyler
1.8 Head in a Sack
Title: Glady's Leap - Blue vinyl
Artist: Fairport Convention
Label: Talking Elephant
Product Type: VINYL LP
UPC: 5028479051113
Genre: Folk
Release Date: 2025-08-15
Number of Discs: 1
Additional Details: UNITED KINGDOM - IMPORT

40th Anniversary 1985-2025 Remastered Special Edition. Half the fourteen tracks were recorded at recent concerts and half in the studio. With nine compositions by members of Fairport, the album presents a mix of brand new songs and favourites from Fairport's repertoire. Two tracks feature guest lead vocals: one from Robert Plant and one from Pentangle's Jacqui McShee. The band was formed by Ashley Hutchings in 1967's 'summer of love' and became one of the most influential UK bands in popular music nurturing the careers of, among others, Richard Thompson, Sandy Denny and Dave Swarbrick. Fairport Convention has attracted critical acclaim throughout it's 50-year career and it's influence has touched artists as diverse as Led Zeppelin and Seth Lakeman. The band's seminal albums Unhalfbricking and Liege & Lief (both released in 1969) originated the British folk-rock genre and Liege & Lief was later awarded a Gold Disc. The band has won a coveted BBC Lifetime Achievement Award and Radio 2 listeners voted Liege & Lief 'The Most Influential Folk Album of All Time'. In the words of bassist Dave Pegg: "This album shows Fairport is nothing if not versatile. The tracks range from new folk-rock (Eleanor's Dream for instance) to lively instrumentals (as in Danny Jack's Reward, a Ric Sanders tune augmented in this recording by Joe Broughton's Conservatoire Ensemble) to Chris Leslie's lovely lyrical songs (such as Our Bus Rolls On).The album also demonstrates Fairport's chameleon-like aptitude for collaboration. We become Robert Plant's backing band for Jesus On The Mainline (recorded live after a single run-through at The Mill theatre in Banbury) and we are joined by Pentangle vocalist Jacqui McShee on Lady of Carlisle"

Tracks:

Audio Sample:
All soundclips are provided by Tidal and are for illustrative purposes only. Digitally remastered and expanded edition. Originally released one year after forming the band, 'Fairport Convention' is their debut album and widely recognized as a piece of history of Fairport Convention's origin sound. Before Sandy Denny joined, their style focused on a psychedelic infected Westcoast rock combined with some jazz inspired passages. Creating acid-jazz-rock classics with breathtaking guitar work ("It's Alright Ma, It's Only Witchcraft") from Richard Thompson and stunning pure vocals ("Portfolio") from Judy Dyble. They set a wonderfully fetching melancholic mood that many feel they didn't get enough credit for and gives an interesting contrast to their post transformation sound.

Tracks:
1.1 Time Will Show the Wiser
1.2 I Don't Know Where I Stand
1.3 If (Stomp)
1.4 Decameron
1.5 Jack O'Diamonds
1.6 Portfolio
1.7 Chelsea Morning
1.8 Sun Shade
1.9 The Lobster
1.10 It's Alright, Ma, It's Only Witchcraft
1.11 One Sure Thing
1.12 M.1 Breakdown
1.13 Suzanne
1.14 If I Had a Ribbon Bow
1.15 Morning Glory
1.16 Reno, Nevada
Title: Festival Cropredy 2002
Artist: Fairport Convention
Label: Talking Elephant
Product Type: COMPACT DISCS
UPC: 5028479005420
Genre: Folk
Release Date: 2007-08-28
Number of Discs: 2
Additional Details: UNITED KINGDOM - IMPORT

2003 reissue of 2002 live release recorded at the Cropredy Festival on August 9th & 10th of 2002. From a bunch of school friends setting out to be 'the British Jefferson Airplane', over the course of their first quartet of releases, the group metamorphosed into the leading exponents of British folk rock. In the way American folk and blues had looked back to gospel songs and spirituals, Fairport mined a seam a traditional English folk song, and then combined them with rock rhythms to create something ground-breaking and quickly emulated. For many, this is the first time the considerable talents of Richard Thompson, Sandy Denny, Ashley Hutchings, Ian Matthews, Dave Swarbrick and Dave Mattacks would have been heard on record. Original vocalist Jusy Dyble left the group in 1968 and was replaced by Alexandra 'Sandy' Denny. The rest of the line-up remained unchanged, and a move to Island Records saw What We Did On Our Holidays released in January the following year. Denny made her mark immediately with her opening song, Fotheringhay. Her voice, as accomplished as Dyble's but bluesier, added a new bite to the material. From a bunch of school friends setting out to be 'the British Jefferson Airplane', over the course of their first quartet of releases, the group metamorphosed into the leading exponents of British folk rock. In the way American folk and blues had looked back to gospel songs and spirituals, Fairport mined a seam a traditional English folk song, and then combined them with rock rhythms to create something ground- breaking and quickly emulated. For many, this is the first time the considerable talents of Richard Thompson, Sandy Denny, Ashley Hutchings, Ian Matthews, Dave Swarbrick and Dave Mattacks would have been heard on record. Although all of that would have been difficult to ascertain on their jaunty, hippy 1968 Polydor debut Fairport Convention. Recorded in November 1967, it's a lovely sunny, suburban take on the summer of love; the vocal blend of Ian Matthews and Judy Dyble, the guitar interplay of Simon Nicol and Richard Thompson and rhythm section of Ashley Hutchings and Martin Lamble highlights their incredible potential. There are two covers of Joni Mitchell's songs, when Mitchell was something of an obscure overseas delicacy- Chelsea Morning, highlights Dyble's sweet delivery, while the drifting, ruminative guitar on I Don't Know Where I Stand points again to the group's longevity.

Tracks:
1.1 Time Will Show the Wiser
1.2 I Don't Know Where I Stand
1.3 If (Stomp) / Decameron
1.4 Jack O'Diamonds
1.5 Portfolio
1.6 Chelsea Morning
1.7 Sun Shade
1.8 The Lobster
1.9 It's Alright Ma, It's Only Witchcraft
1.10 One Sure Thing
1.11 M1 Breakdown
Title: Wishfulness Waltz
Artist: Fairport Convention
Label: City Hall (Generic)
Product Type: COMPACT DISCS
UPC: 766126804822
Genre: Folk
Release Date: 2000-03-07
Number of Discs: 1

16 track studio album originally released in 1997 from British folk legends features Richard Thompson & Dave Swarbrick on 4 never before released live bonus tracks.

Tracks:
1.1 John Gaudie Jack Brook Da Prison Door [Cdonald Blue [D]The Bon
1.2 Sailing Boat
1.3 Here's to Tom Paine
1.4 Bowman's Retreat
1.5 Spanish Main
1.6 Golden Glove
1.7 Slipology
1.8 Wishfulness Waltz
1.9 Life's a Long Song
1.10 Dangerous
1.11 I Heard It Through the Grapevine
1.12 Who Knows Where the Time Goes?
1.13 Poor Will and the Jolly Hangman
1.14 Rosie
1.15 Jack O'Diamonds
1.16 Come All Ye
Title: What We Did On Our Saturday
Artist: Fairport Convention
Label: Matty Grooves
Product Type: COMPACT DISCS
UPC: 5051078962122
Genre: Folk
Release Date: 2018-06-22
Number of Discs: 2
Additional Details: UNITED KINGDOM - IMPORT

"What We Did On Our Saturday" is a double CD recorded live at a landmark concert by the founders of the British Folk-Rock genre, legendary folk-rock band Fairport Convention. Also evident is the trademark unpredictability and wacky sense of fun which marked their live concerts. Make 'em laugh, make 'em cry, make 'em puzzled; that was early Fairport. In May 1969, the band were involved in a fatal car accident which killed their drummer Martin Lamble and Thompson's girlfriend, Jeannie Franklyn. In a state of obvious shock, Fairport decided to carry on, making Swarbrick a permanent member and adding drummer Dave Mattacks. Ashley Hutchings submerged himself in traditional British music and, as a result, fourth album Liege And Lief contained five traditional tracks, and three originals in the folk style. It established the template that Fairport would follow and is one of the most influential albums in British rock. The eight- minute masterpiece Matty Groves built On A Sailor's Life and gave Fairport another long-lasting anthem. By the time the album was released, Sandy Denny and Ashley Hutchings had both left the group, and another chapter was to begin. Fairport Convention are still playing to this very day, still with original member Simon Nicol in the line- up. Their annual Cropredy Festival has become a reassuring landmark in the UK concert calendar - and many of these songs here feature in their set today. This re-issue faithfully replicates the original 1969 Island Records UK release with gatefold sleeve and is pressed onto high quality 180g vinyl.

Tracks:
1.1 Come All Ye
1.2 Reynardine
1.3 Matty Groves
1.4 Farewell, Farewell
1.5 The Deserter
1.6 Medley: The Lark in the Morning; Rakish Paddy; Foxhunter's Jig; Toss the Feathers
1.7 Tam Lin
1.8 Crazy Man Michael
Title: On the Ledge: 35th Anniversary Concert
Artist: Fairport Convention
Label: Dream Catcher UK
Product Type: COMPACT DISCS
UPC: 5036436013227
Genre: Folk
Release Date: 2007-06-19
Number of Discs: 1
Additional Details: UNITED KINGDOM - IMPORT

Two CD set containing a phenomenal set recorded by Fairport Convention during their 35th Anniversary Tour at the Anvil Theatre, Basingstoke, England. 23rd February 2002. Ian Matthews left the group during Unhalfbricking, and they decided not to replace him. The album was recorded between January and April 1969 and shows the band gaining confidence. The material is strong, and their covers of three Bob Dylan songs (including material from the then- bootleg The Basement Tapes) yielded a Top 30 UK hit single, Si Ti Dois Partir - a cover of If You Gotta Go, Go Now, sung in French. Sandy Denny contributes her keynote song Who Knows Where The Time Goes, and most remarkable of all is A Sailor's Life, a traditional folk song arranged by Simon Nicol and Richard Thompson. The ballad builds over 11 minutes into a full- on wig- out with a guest performance by Dave Swarbrick on fiddle.

Tracks:
1.1 Genesis Hall
1.2 Si Tu Dois Partir
1.3 Autopsy
1.4 A Sailor's Life
1.5 Cajun Woman
1.6 Who Knows Where the Time Goes
1.7 Percy's Song
1.8 Million Dollar Bash
Title: Myths & Heroes
Artist: Fairport Convention
Label: Matty Grooves
Product Type: COMPACT DISCS
UPC: 5051078938820
Genre: Folk
Release Date: 2015-04-07
Number of Discs: 1

Myths and Heroes is the latest album from Britain's best-known folk-rock band Fairport Convention. Vocalists Judy Dyble and Iain Matthews joined them before the recording of their self-titled debut in 1968; afterwards, Dyble was replaced by Sandy Denny, with Matthews later leaving during the recording of their third album. Denny began steering the group towards traditional British music for their next two albums, What We Did on Our Holidays and Unhalfbricking (both 1969); the latter featured fiddler Dave Swarbrick. For Liege & Lief Swarbrick joined full time alongside drummer Dave Mattacks. Both Denny and Hutchings left before the year's end; the latter replaced by Dave Pegg, who has remained the group's sole consistent member to this day.
