That is all the more remarkable, since very few composers have yet to achieve this status composing music for films. Recorded in Rome in 1998, Ennio Morricone conducts Morricone - His Greatest Hits came about as the result of a happy encounter. \"Some years ago, Bruno Cagli, the superintendent of the Accademia di Santa Cecilia had asked me if I would do a concert of my film music at the Accademia,\" the composer recalled recently. \"I agreed, provided that I'd be allowed to use their fine musicians.\" With so many themes to choose from, final selection proved a daunting task. As Morricone explains, \"I finally zeroed in on the themes that I thought the public loved the best.\" This album proves a fine tribute to one of the best film composers of the twentieth century. With more than three hundred scores to his credit, in recent years Morricone has taken to writing more selectively for the screen. Tepepa finds himself several times facing the fearsome Colonel Cascorro and is constantly persecuted by an English doctor, Henry Price, eager to avenge a girl from a wealthy family with whom the doctor was in love and whom Tepepa had raped, driving her to suicide. Cascorro finally manages to wound Tepepa, who had escaped him several times, but in the decisive battle he is killed by the revolutionary. Meanwhile, the doctor, who despite his hatred for Tepepa had remained on the side of the revolutionaries, manages to take revenge on the peon, killing him with a scalpel immediately after extracting the bullet from the wound. Tepepa's death, however, does not mark the end of the revolution, and others will continue the battle in his place. SECRET OF THE SAHARA THE SOUNDTRACK Ennio Morricone with \"Secret of the Sahara\" achieved great sales success, especially thanks to the song \"Saharan Dream\" performed by Amii Stewart (Tr. 16). At the time, Italian RCA released a CD (RCA - 74321 34225 2) and a 33 rpm (RCA BL 71559) with sixteen tracks selected by the author. This material was released in France on CD (RCA BD71947) and on vinyl (RCA BL71947). In 2018, the same material was reissued on vinyl by Monte Stella Records (MSR-1220008). In 2007 Maestro Morricone approved six previously unreleased tracks for an expanded edition, which GDM released on CD (GDM 4107), now that expanded version is back on CD, with a duration of 76:14 minutes. Ennio Morricone wrote an epic theme for orchestra and choir, introduced by the bass flute (Tr. 1), repeated in Tr. 8, Tr. 12 and in Tr. 22 where Edda Dell'Orso's crystal voice is the absolute protagonist. THE LAW OF THE DESERT THE SOUNDTRACK In 1991, Mercury pressed a CD (848 553 -2) and a vinyl (848 553 -1) with selections prepared by the composer himself. In 2000 GDM released an expanded CD with four bonus tracks and in 2012 the more complete version with thirty tracks. We now re-release that material from the latest CD version with a total duration of 77:23 minutes. The main theme is an evocative epic-romantic motif in which the voice of soprano Pina Magri (Tr. 1) (already the lead vocalist in the soundtrack of Dario Argento's \"Phenomena\"), repeated in Tr. 14, and Tr. 24 and in the magical \"Lei, una voce\" (Tr. 4). Ennio Morricone creates a theme in the style of \"The Secret of the Sahara\", a magical, suspended motif which then develops for orchestra and choir (Tr. 2, 22, 28, 30). The soundtrack is enriched by suspense music (Tr. 3, 6, 10, 11, 12, 13, 15, 18, 23), and the light epic-nostalgic theme \"Death of Mulay\" (Tr. 16). In the endless stretches of sand, there is no shortage of love as in 'Attimi d'amore' (Tr. 5, 25), \"Ninna nanna per un'insonnia\" (Tr. 17) and \"Una luce, mille luci\" (Tr. 20).
